The mathematics curriculum serves a student’s general education by providing the student with the necessary logical thinking and skills, which are fundamental for the successful pursuit of other studies.
The first of three courses that comprises the main track in mathematics. The emphasis in Math A-1 is the study of logic and problem solving. The following topics are explored: Logic, algebra, geometry, analytic geometry, probability and statistics.
GEOMETRY (1 UNIT)
This is the second course in a three course sequence leading to an advanced regents diploma. This course will explore axioms, definitions, and theorems using properties of perpendicularity, parallelism, congruence, and similarity of various figures to develop proofs and solve geometric problems.
ALGEBRA II (1 UNIT)
This is the third course in a three course sequence leading to and advanced regents diploma. This course will explore equations and inequalities, variables and expressions, patterns, functions, and relations, coordinate geometry, trigonometric functions, units of measurement, and probability and statistics.
INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA (1 UNIT)
This course is designed primarily for those students who need a third year of mathematics after completing 2 years of math.
The study will include: Linear functions, equations and inequalities, polynomials, rational expressions, radicals and exponents, graphs of conics, system of equations, exponential and logarithmic functions, word problem solving.
MATH 12 (PRE-CALCULUS) (1 UNIT)
This is an introductory course in advanced mathematics. The study will include: Coordinate geometry, functions and inverses, trigonometry, logarithms and exponentials, sequences and series, conics, matrices. Much of the study will use technology via TI-82 and derive software.
AV/CC CALCULUS I and CALCULUS II (1 UNIT)
A university level mathematics course covering 8 credits of college work. The study will include: Derivatives and their applications, anti-derivatives and their applications.
