" And what is as important as knowledge?" asked the mind, " Seeing and caring with the heart," answered the soul.

We will strive to academically challenge the students through strategy use and content.  The comprehension strategies of: connecting, questioning, visualizing, inferring, determining importance and synthesizing will be the brainwork underlying all the academic content the children will work through this school year.  The development of sophisticated language/ vocabulary knowledge will be another instructional focus.  We hope to " inspire a desire" in students to guide their own learning. We hope students will not only feel proud of their abilities, but also be dazzled by all they are able to achieve.
The heart and strength of the classroom community is defined by the children.  We hope to help the students realize that they actively impact their peers- socially and academically. Through consideration, honesty, encouragement, compassion, intelligence and bravery students affect the lives of those around them ( including their teachers)! We want our students to have a voice in the classroom  and feel valued.  Each child has much to offer!  We truly do learn from each other.
Fifth grade is an important, special time in the lives of children.  Thank you for the opportunity to work with and care for your child this school year.  I can't wait to get started!
