Announcement of Scholarship Opportunities for current Juniors
University of Rochester
-These scholarships will be no less than $7500 per year for four years. One junior from Olean High School will be chosen for each of these awards.
If you are seriously considering attending college at the University of Rochester and would like to apply for one of the following scholarships please check the appropriate scholarship and attach your essay to this page. Return to the Guidance Office by Friday, March 13, 2009. Winners will be announced at the May awards breakfast.
George Eastman Young Leaders Award
Award Criteria
-Strong leadership experience at school and in their community
-High grades and challenging courses
-Extensive involvement in extracurricular activities
Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award
Award Criteria
-A demonstrated commitment to understanding and addressing difficult social issues
-Leadership and a dedication to community action
-Strong grades and rigorous courses taken in the humanities and social sciences
Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology
Award Criteria
-A strong interest in innovation and/or information technology and a high level of achievement in this area in coursework and outside of school
-Exposure to new technologies outside of school, such as pursuing serious work opportunities in local laboratories or industry.
-Leading other students to new approaches to old problems; business plans for fundraising; innovative community service; after school activities; and best uses of communications tools such as chat and blogs.
