Each student will have until May 19th to complete the following:

    • Design and build a single-story cabin/cottage that is between 600-900 square feet in scaled inch units using a gabled or shed roof that is removable using foam core and X-Acto knives.

    Constraints:

    • Your completed scaled floor plan drawings and structure need to include the following features:

    • A common room

    • Kitchen area

    • A bathroom that is large enough to have a toilet, shower and vanity

    • Bedroom

    • Interior storage/utility closet

    • Interior door(s)-- cut outs are acceptable 36” scale

    • 2 Exterior doors—swing in 36”scale

    • 5-12 windows

    • Your design can show vaulted ceilings, flat ceilings and/or both

    • The longest side of the house cannot be longer than 36’The width cannot be longer than 26.

    • The finalized scaled drawing will be copied, and one will be glued to mounting cardboard with foamboard-constructed building sitting on top of the drawing.

    • Observe and practice proper safety practices while using X-ACTO and inline knives.

    • Complete all project deliverables by May 19th.

    Project Pacing

    • Research possible solutions

    • Sketch and present 5 footprint solutions to Mr. Brown starting Wednesday

    • Once a shape has been chosen, determine the length and width of your structure making sure that it falls between the acceptable square footage. Plan out room placement and sizes.

    • Begin final scaled down version on ¼" grid paper.

    • Walls need to be representative of 6” thick

    • Completed drawing needs to be signed off by Mr. Brown

    • Begin measuring and cutting walls, windows, and doors on foamcore.

    • All doors need to be 7’ tall and 3’ wide

    • All rooms should be large enough to accommodate features.
