Dr. Pamela Eddy
  • Pamela Eddy, Ph.D.
    OHS Class of 1978

    Pamela Eddy, Ph.D., a 1978 graduate of Olean High, is a Fulbright Scholar and award-winning educator. Dr. Eddy contributed to numerous educational publications, and is a noted researcher of higher education leadership methods and practices. Her research and teaching focus included post-secondary leadership, academic culture and organization in higher education, gender issues, community colleges, faculty development and careers, and qualitative research in education.

Elizabeth “Betty” Levett
  • Elizabeth “Betty” Levett
    OHS Class of 1950

    Betty Levett, a 1950 graduate of Olean High, was a pioneer in the Olean community for women in business. Ms. Levett served in the Women’s Army Corps and attained the rank of corporal, serving in both Korea and Panama as a communications specialist. In Olean, she provided nearly 30 years of service to the community as the owner and operator of the Professional Answering Service of Olean, Inc. A business leader who donated much of her time to community service, Ms. Levett oversaw the first computerized telephone service in the area, started the first alarm company to provide medical alerts for the homebound, was the first local radio common carrier, and became the first woman nationally licensed alarm technician.

Dr. Richard Gates
  • Richard Gates, Ph.D.

    Richard Gates, Ph.D. had a lengthy career as a teacher and professor, and dedicated his life’s work to educating students and prospective teachers alike. A 20-year member of the Olean City School District Board of Education, Dr. Gates also served on the Olean Planning Board of Directors, was a board member for the Olean Public Library, and was Dean of St. Bonaventure University’s School of Education. Dr. Gates was influential in the education of many of Olean’s teachers, and made a positive impact on the lives of countless individuals throughout the district.

     

Mr. Joe Mahar
  • Joe Mahar
    OHS Class of 1967

    Joe Mahar, a 1967 graduate of Olean High, worked in the business office of the school district for 27 years. As business manager and district clerk, Mr. Mahar safeguarded the district’s financial assets, and taught many others to understand the complexities and nuances of the district’s financial systems and practices. Mr. Mahar volunteered his time at the Rotary Club and Lyons Club, along with St. Mary’s of the Angels Church. He was also a contributing member of the Allegany-Cattaraugus School Business Officials.
