• Teacher and Staff Recognition Submission

    The Olean City School District takes pride in its employees.  Below are links for nominating a teacher or staff member who you feel deserves some special recognition.  On the left is the link to the "Mr. Ron Shoup Memorial Award" honoring a teacher in the district who consistently goes out of their way for students.  The link on the right is to honor a staff member who is a leader in their own right.  They go above and beyond their job description to make Olean a special place for students.

    Submissions will be taken on a rolling basis, and recognitions will be given in September and March of each school year.  

     

  • Mr. Ron Shoup Memorial Award

    The Mr. Ron Shoup Memorial Award

    Mr. Ron Shoup was employed by the Olean City School District for over 40 years as a 7th grade health teacher and coach. Ron coached and taught thousands of students over the years in the district.  Ron was always happy to help whenever he could - whether that was volunteering as a chaperone or bringing in his own personal coolers for school use during dances and field trips. Ron was generous and when he learned about students or families in need, he went out of his way to try and help meet their needs (whether it was financial or academic).
     
    As a teacher, Ron was loved and respected by his students. He had high expectations for them.  He knew just how important his ever-evolving curriculum was for his students.  It could be rigorous and difficult for some, but that was balanced by his sense of humor and his personable nature.  He made students feel accepted and valued.  If a student showed an interest in something, he would go out of his way to find out more about that topic.  He was a master at building student relationships and connecting with and engaging his classes.

    In the Olean City School District we have many huskies that serve as leaders of our district pack. Leaders of the pack are great communicators who treat others the way they want to be treated. They are self-aware and admit to making mistakes and work to correct them. They work to encourage others to do and be better. They are dependable and can be counted on during times of need. They possess integrity, are honest and keep their word. They promote husky pride and encourage school spirit in their current roles within the district.
