Homeschooling Education Information
As you make the decision to homeschool your child(ren), we feel it is important that you fully understand the scope of responsibilities as the parent, and the responsibility of the Olean City School District. We have compiled a list of important points for your consideration:
1. You are responsible for your child's education and complying with the guidelines of the Part 100.10 Regulations on Homeschooling set forth by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED).
- You are required to provide the curriculum, all materials, quarterly reportsand end-of-year assessments.
- The district does not provide, recommend or endorse any homeschooling curriculum or program, and it is your responsibility to provide this for your children.
2. The Olean City School District is responsible for assuring compliance of the New York State Part 100.10 Regulations governing homeschooling. To do this, we are required to collect the Letter of Intent, Individual Home Instruction Plan (IHIP), quarterly reports, and end-of-year assessments within the required timelines.
3. We partner with Erie 1 BOCES to maintain all the required homeschooling documentation using their online submission platofrm, myOneFlow.

b) Once you have created the account, you will need to digitally sign the Letter of Intent and upload the IHIP for each child.
c) Do not include Preschool students in your myOneFlow account, as homeschooling regulations apply only to compulsory-aged students.
d) If you have any questions about creating or uploading information into the Erie 1 BOCES myOneFlow account, please call our Erie 1 BOCES homeschool contact, Julie Gajewski, at (716) 821-7081 for support.
e) Please submit your IHIP within 10 days of signing the Letter of Intent. Although you have 30 days to comply, it is best practice to get the IHIP approved as soon as possible to be sure the curriculum complies with NYSED guidelines.
** IMPORTANT: Your child is not accepted for home schooling until you receive an email from Erie 1 BOCES that the IHIP has been accepted **
4. Hours of Instruction required annually:
Grades 1 - 6 = 900 hours per year
Grades 7 - 12 = 990 hours per year

5. You will be required to submit quarterly reports and end-of-year assessments. These records may be submitted through myOneFlow by either completing the online forms provided in myOneFlow or uploading copies of the completed records, whichever is more convenient for you.
6. You may re-enroll your child for in-person instruction at any time, but you will be required to meet with the building principal and/or guidance counselor to determine placement, based on units earned/coursework completed as determined by NYSED. Please be aware that the grade placement at that time may differ from your home school grade placement.
7. If your child is homeschooled as they prepare for graduation, they will not be considered graduates of Olean High School and will not receive a diploma from the Olean City School District. The District may provide a Letter of Completion when all required course content , assessments, and reporting requirements have been met.
8. The Olean City School Board of Education Policy #8440 with regards to Homeschool Education, notes that students who are homeschooled are not eligible to participate in Extra-Curricular activities (sports and clubs).
