MTSS stands for Muti-Tiered System of Supports, and is an educational initiative that focuses on the whole child - academics, behavior, attendance, and social-emotional learning.
This framework allows us to keep students at the very center of all we do.
While MTSS seems like a new acronym to many, it has been an educational initiative for well over twenty years. What drives our MTSS program is data, and using multiple data points to initiate student growth.
Some other useful acronyms:
RTI - Response to Intervention
PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (Behavioral)
OCSD is currently working with consultants and NYS experts to implement this three-tiered system to provide "evidence-based, equity-centered educational support" for our students (Castillo 2023).
MTSS is NOT a referral process for special education services!
