What is the OCSD District-Wide Safety Plan?

New York requires districts to develop district-wide safety plans to prevent or minimize the effects of serious incidents and emergencies and to facilitate a coordinated response with local and county resources. The district-wide plan is consistent with the more detailed emergency-response plans developed at the school level and allows for input from the entire school community.

District-wide safety plans are developed under the state’s SAVE program – Safe Schools Against Violence in Education. Project SAVE is a comprehensive planning effort that addresses prevention, response, and recovery in a variety of emergency situations across the district.

Opportunities for Feedback

Each year, the district opens the plan for public comment for 30 days, holds a Public Hearing, and engages staff and the Board of Education in reviewing and discussing it. This year, our Public Hearing will be held immediately preceding the Board’s August meeting.

After considering feedback from all stakeholders, the Board of Education will consider adoption of the plan at its meeting immediately following the Public Hearing. This is an annual process.
