Olean City Schools is Proud to Announce our New Superintendent

Interim Superintendent of Olean City School District, Dr. Karen Geelan is pleased to announce, that “Members of the Olean Board of Education have completed their search, and Dr. Genelle Morris will be appointed the next Superintendent of Schools for the Olean City School District.”  “A special meeting is being planned for Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at which Dr. Morris will be appointed, “continued Geelan.  “You are invited to join us in welcoming Dr. Morris in the Olean High School auditorium at 6:30 PM that day.  She is expected to start on July 11, 2022.”

A passionate advocate for providing high-quality education for all children, Dr. Genelle Morris has spent more than 30 years in urban education dedicating her life to ensuring each child graduates from high school ready for college or a career. While pursuing that goal, she has worked in varying roles in education, including science instruction, curriculum, and assessment development; and at the district level, leading work in assessment, accountability, research, and evaluation.

Dr. Morris is currently the Deputy Superintendent for Operations and Systems Innovation for the Rochester City School District (RCSD). Before this role, she served as Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning in the RCSD. Dr. Morris came to the RCSD from the Buffalo Public Schools, where she served as an educator and administrator for 30 years. She was the Chief Accountability Officer/Chief Information Officer for the district, where she was responsible for accountability, assessment, research, and evaluation of system-wide goals and targets. She has also served as Assistant Superintendent of Shared Accountability, Director of Data Analysis, Supervisor of Data Analysis, Principal, and Assistant Principal, and began her career as a Science/Advanced Placement (AP) Biology Teacher with the Buffalo Public Schools.

Dr. Morris earned her doctorate in educational leadership and policy from the University at Buffalo in 2014, receiving the prestigious “Thinking Outside the Box” award for her thesis which studied the implementation of the Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) in New York State. She additionally earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy, a certificate of advanced study in educational leadership and policy, and a master’s degree in Science Education from the University at Buffalo. Her bachelor’s degree in Biology was earned from Canisius College in 1997.

Dr. Morris has served as an adjunct professor for several years and has also served on various educational committees and boards at the local, regional, state, and national levels. Her passion for student advocacy, diversity, and progress light a fire beneath everything that she does.

Geelan wishes to, “Congratulate the OCSD community and Board of Education on a successful superintendent search.  The community input helped the Board to find and select Dr. Morris, and I look forward to ensuring a smooth transition in district leadership.” 

Geelan further stated, “It has been a pleasure serving as your Interim Superintendent of Schools.  We have accomplished a lot in a short time for our students and schools.  Olean is a terrific district with caring and dedicated faculty and staff and a wonderful pack of Huskies!”
